The Congress consists of a series of profiled conferences held at various cities throughout the whole year 2023, these being Copernicus and philosophy (Cracow, 24–26 May 2023), the life of Copernicus (21–24 Olsztyn, June 2023), the age of Copernicus, the history of medicine, history of astronomy, and the General Assembly of the Polish Astronomical Society (these four conferences will be held simultaneously in Toruń, 11–16 September 2023).
The conference on the history of astronomy, entitled “Copernicus and Astronomy: Continuity, Reform, and Dissemination”, will be held in Toruń, 11–16 September 2023. It is our intention that the conference should offer an overview of current research on various aspects of pre-Copernican astronomy, Copernicus himself, and the early reception of new astronomy. The conference will consist of three modules: 1. Ptolemaic and Alfonsine heritage; 2. Copernican astronomy, and 3. Early reception. Accordingly, the conference will be attended by those scholars who work on the history of astronomy and cosmology from the Middle Ages to the 17th century.
