A website devoted to Józef Koffler — composer, music writer, and in 1924–1939 a teacher at the Conservatory of the Polish Music Society in Lwow (until 1945 in Poland) — was developed by Dr Michał Piekarski (Institute for the History of Science, Polish Academy of Sciences) and Prof. Iwona Lindstedt (Institute of Musicology, University of Warsaw). The website presents Koffler’s life, work, and other activities and collects various documents. Dr Michał Piekarski is the author of the following sections: Life: Biography, Music Writer and Editor, Places, and People.

Dr Michał Piekarski’s popular science article Lwow – Centre of Polish Musical Culture in the Long Nineteenth Century shows Lwow as one of the main Polish music centres in the 19th century. It describes music institutions, music schools, and composer circles. The article was published in the magazine “Wszystko co Najważniejsze” (No. 73, 2025, p. 18) and is available online in Polish, English, French, Spanish, Ukrainian, and Russian.


Dr Michał Piekarski: Cantata The Unknown Soldier by Mieczysław Sołtys

In November 2025, Dr Michał Piekarski contributed to the revival of Mieczysław Sołtys’s cantata The Unknown Soldier. The work was composed in 1925 and first performed during the ceremonies accompanying the exhumation and transfer of the remains of a Polish Defender of Lwów from 1918 to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Warsaw. After 100 years, the cantata was performed again in Warsaw on 11 November 2025. A recording of the performance is available on YouTube
