Jan Możdżyński, a doctoral student at the Anthropos doctoral school affiliated with the Institute of History of Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences, participated this summer in two prestigious international summer schools for doctoral students and early-career researchers.
The first event took place from August 18-23 at Södertörn University in Stockholm. Organized by the Centre for Baltic and East European Studies, the summer school was titled “Transnational Perspectives on Eastern Europe and the Baltic Sea Region: Past and Present”. During this meeting, Jan Możdżyński delivered a paper entitled “Transnational Approach in History of Sozology”.
The second summer school, devoted to the theme “Narratives of Disruption and Continuity in Science, Technology, and Society”, took place between September 1-5. It was organized by the research team working on the history of science and technology at the University of Wuppertal. Jan Możdżyński presented the results of his research there in a presentation titled “Disruption and Continuity in History of Sozology”.
Both presentations were very well received, contributing to strengthening the international visibility of the Institute of History of Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
Jan Możdżyński’s research, conducted under the supervision of Dr. hab. Marcin Krasnodębski and Dr. Tijana Rupčić, is carried out within the framework of the project “History of Sustainability Science”. The project is funded by an NCN Sonata Bis grant at IHN PAN. The doctoral dissertation focuses on a forgotten Polish scientific tradition – sozology. This was a unique attempt to scientifically approach environmental protection issues in the Eastern Bloc. The doctorate will cover both the history of the concept and its various interpretations, as well as the socio-scientific background from which research conducted under the banner of “sozology” emerged.
